Delta Que Day of Purpose

image

Spring has Sprung and it’s time to put our Purpose in Motion. Save the Date of Saturday, April 23, 2011 for our Delta/Que Day of Purpose Part 2. Those of you who had the opportunity to participate for round one did a wonderful job and I know we agree that it was a fun and rewarding experience. We will return again to Briarwood Health and Rehabilitation Center and our primary focus this time will be the maintenance of the exterior and landscaping. Sorors, it will be just exciting as it sounds. One of our targeted goals is to beautify the Courtyard with Patio furniture and accessories. Sorors, if you are someone you know has a contact with a business who would be willing to donate to this cause, please let us know. We will also be speaking with the Omegas about members of our Organizations making donations to purchase landscaping items as well. Sorors, feel free to share any ideas you might have in making this project a success. Please be on the lookout for exciting updates to this fabulous Day of Service. There will be 2 shifts, 8:45 to 11:30 and 11:30 to 2:00 with a group picture at 11:30. Allergies preventing you from working outside? I’m sure we can find something inside for you to do. Sign up sheets will be available at the April Chapter Meeting. What a great way to give back for the Easter Weekend. That evening we will be hosting the Spring edition of the Scholarship Matinee called “A White Affair” at Cloud 9 Bar and Grill from 6pm to 10pm. Tickets are now available for $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Sorors, get your tickets early. Tickets will be available at Executive Board, Chapter meeting, The Jewelry Lady (7427 N. Shadeland Ave 46250), E.M. Hughes and Associates (8078 Windham Lake Drive 46214) or any Reclamation Committee. Donations are appreciated as well.

2007 Sisterhood Retreat: Introducing Delta Legends

The Membership & Reclamation Committee of the Indianapolis Alumnae Chapter is in full swing planning the 2007 Sisterhood Retreat. This year’s retreat is scheduled for March 31, 2007. The theme for this year’s retreat is “A Spirit of One.”

The signature activity for this year’s Sisterhood Retreat is our Delta Legends Ball Luncheon. The luncheon is based on “Oprah’s Legend’s Ball and Luncheon.” The Membership & Reclamation Committee will honor our own “Delta Legends”.  We encourage you to nominate a Delta that has been an inspiration to you.

As you consider your nomination, your attendance at the Sisterhood Retreat, and your life as a Soror as the anniversary of our sorority’s founding comes closer, reflect on these words:

“We feel deeply rooted and connected to the souls of Black folk who came before us. We see each one of their lives as bridges to our own – A Bridge to now. As young Deltas we’ve admired our Founders, Past National Presidents, Regional Directors, State Coordinators, Chapter Presidents, Advisors, and Specs. They were our role models and the Delta women we strived to be.

Our African-American history make us keenly aware that the ground on which we travel so freely has been forged by sweat, intelligence, talent, and courage of ancestors who couldn’t even imagine the life we’re blessed to live. When our Founders walked down Pennsylvania Avenue during that first historic women’s suffrage march, they gave birth to generations of women who would pave the wave for our civil liberties. We have a fierce respect and reverence for those whose names have made history and for the millions that did not. Just ordinary people, many of which were sorors, who received no recognition but were resourceful, resilient and remarkable in their perseverance. They endured slavery. Succeeded in spite of segregation. Triumphed over indignities. Founded our sorority. They sang, “We Shall Overcome” and indeed, they did.

We marvel at their will. We celebrate their strength. We rejoice in their determination to keep coming. Our Delta Legends Ball luncheon is a celebration for every Legend, specifically our Delta Legends, known and unknown to us from then and now.

We honor you. We thank you. We owe you. We love you.”

Sisterly Yours,

The IAC Membership & Reclamation Committee
